Bloomsburg Earns Split with Shippensburg in Softball
GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE
SHIPPENSBURG--Bloomsburg University's Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) tossed a one-hit shutout and scored the game's only run in leading the Huskies to a 1-0 win over Shippensburg University and a split of its doubleheader on Friday. The Huskies dropped the opener 1-0 in eight innings to the Lady Raiders.
In the nightcap, Reed allowed just a second inning single to Shippensburg and struck out four and did not walk a batter to earn her sixth win of the season. Offensively, Reed also scored the game's only run when she scored a run in the fifth inning.
Reed started the fifth with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, then scored when Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Metchacton) doubled to right center. Shippensburg's only other runner came via an error leading off the fifth inning. However, Reed was able to escape the jam getting the next three batters and overall, retired the final nine batters she faced.
In game one, the Huskies managed just one hit in falling to the Lady Raiders, 1-0, in eight innings. Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) was the tough-luck loser giving up just six hits and striking out eight. Shippensburg scored the only run in the eighth on a single by Rachelle Wedell.
The Huskies go to 18-8, 1-1 in the PSAC East, and will host Kutztown on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader.
Shippensburg goes to 20-10, 1-1 in the PSAC East.
